“There is only one way to create a true masterpiece – by hand.”hand-embroidered
Our hand-embroidered pillows are the “sun” of our catstudio universe, where all else revolves around. Their specialness cannot be described in words, they must be seen and held to really appreciate the “art” involved.

  • Each pillow takes about a week to create by HAND.
  • Embroidery is done by experienced and talented artisans who are paid fairly and treated well.
  • The art is embroidered on 100% organic cotton.
  • As many as 30 colors of thread are used to create the rich and textural design.

We’re oh-so proud to announce that we received the AmericasMart ICON Honors 2014 Medal of Excellence Honor!

On May 6th, we got the call: Terrell & Carmel are finalists for the ICON Honors awards. Ginny, Sierra, and Rachel had nominated them for the 2nd year in a row, and were beyond thrilled to deliver the news. T&C were a bit overwhelmed by the attention at first, but quickly became excited about the opportunity to share their story. And as Carmel put it, “The product is so darn wonderful, and our little company is made up of such amazing individuals, that it is a reflection on the WHOLE, not just us two.”

On May 22nd, two black SUVs pulled up to our Petaluma office, filled with our new friends from AmericasMart and a talented film crew. A whirlwind of pillows, coffee/pastries, and lots and lots of talking ensued – and less than 2 hours later, the crew pulled away with what we hope was some great footage. A bit dazed, the question we were all asking ourselves: “Did we really win?”award-winning designsFast-forward to the evening of July 10th at the lovely Atlanta Marriott Marquis: We’re all dressed to the nines and surrounded by some of our close friends, all while enjoying a nice meal and an exclusive Heart concert. The colorful blue trophies are lined up and lit up across the stage. After some amazing companies are introduced and awarded (including Mud Pie and Vera Bradley), we’re up – the LAST award of the night. Our video appears on the big screens, and our table erupts in applause, smiles, and happy tears. To our surprise, we’ve won one of the most prestigious awards: the Medal of Excellence Honor. “The AmericasMart Medal of Excellence Honor celebrates catstudio‘s landmark contributions to the gift and home industry. The Honor additionally recognizes catstudio‘s creation of the product genre for which it is universally known.” Terrell & Carmel took the stage, and graciously accepted the award. Watch the full video here (including Terrell’s acceptance speech):

It still feels like the whole thing was a dream, but a beautiful trophy is proudly sitting in our office as proof. And we have you to thank for that – for all your love and support over the years. YOU are a big part of what makes catstudio so special!

1001070_632378926786998_955987241_nWhat a journey! This summer, my husband and I decided to expand our usual pilgrimage to visit my parents (and hometown) in Montana. What started as our usual 2,600 mile trip, turned into a whopping 11-state (4,000 mile) adventure!

We decided to time our trip so we could also attend a family reunion in North Dakota after visiting Montana. And we thought as long as were heading over there, we’d make a trip out of it and finally see Mount Rushmore. As we started looking at other things to see in the area, we added Wyoming and Nebraska to our trip. And then, just for good measure, we decided to take the long way to Montana for the first time – via Oregon and Washington.

Screen Shot 2014-02-28 at 12.37.42 PMSo we packed up the car (complete with 11 catstudio state pillows!) and headed out. We saw lots of family and friends, enjoyed plenty of ice cream and trail mix; but most of all, we really felt like we were on a classic American road trip. My husband, a beer aficionado, found microbreweries for us to visit in 6 of the 11 different states. We stopped at “Welcome” signs, landmarks, scenic points, etc. to take photos with the pillows – which I posted to Facebook along the way (check them all out here). When we weren’t talking, scheming, and dreaming, we listened to a wide variety of music and even a book on tape. We saw breathtaking landscapes – mountains, prairie, rivers, badlands, ridges, ravines, farmland, forests, lakes, and plains. You just gotta love the diversity and beauty of America!

The highlight of the trip was the night show at Mount Rushmore. We both felt SO very proud to be Americans by the end of the program. The lowlight – getting a bit lost on long 2-lane highways in Nebraska in search of Chimney Rock. Let’s just say we were a little too reliant on Google Maps and had no cell service…

All in all, it was a great trip. We were happy to scratch off some new places on our USA scratch map, and were already planning our next big adventure by the time we got home. Our goal: hit all 50 states… and perhaps do them all with catstudio pillows in tow.
